The purpose
of this assignment is to:
This
is the third of four assignments where you will gain skills and techniques,
learn about key developments in Physical Theatre and prepare to assimilate
these skills for performance.

Scenario
Through
teacher led workshops and the study and analysis of recorded performance you
will learn about key developments in the practice of physical theatre. You will explore the application of these
ideas in teacher led workshops and analyse the practitioners in an essay.

Task 1 Practitioner Analysis Essay
Discuss the differences
in devising practices between Frantic
Assembly and Grotowski’s work.
Word limit 1000 words
· You must hand in your Essay plan as well as
your essay.
· All work must be emailed to wrenniso@brit.croydon.sch.uk
· All work will be tested for plagiarism.
· Any quotes must be referenced.
You will watch, discuss
and analyse different contemporary physical theatre practitioners and company
performances and make judgements concerning their key features, influences
and working methods.
You will record your findings
in a course workbook.

Task 2 Scratch Performance 2
You will create a scratch
performance response to the stimulus material where you will listen to
feedback and discuss the possibilities for performance and how best to
develop the work.
Using given stimulus
material you will develop a short performance piece that demonstrates how you
have responded to stimulus material and developed ideas, resources, research
and materials for performance.
You will develop this
piece in small groups with some degree of independence
You will take part in a
post performance plenary discussion, this will include feedback and
discussion on the way material was developed and skills and techniques
incorporated.
You will record your
analysis and evaluation of the performance in your course workbook
10 minutes of performance material.
2.5 minutes per person.

The Frantic Assembly Book of Devising Theatre
Written by artistic directors Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett, this
book reflects on the history and practice of this company.
Please try to read books to support your writing, the answers
to this will not be found on the Internet. You must read about the two
practitioners and galvanise your own opinions while doing this.
